Do the politically smart thing

If the company culture values socializing, but it’s not your thing, do it every now and again.  Even if you have a pile of responsibilities waiting at home and you’d rather not spend more time with work associates, putting in the time is the politically smart thing to do.  You don’t have to do anything that feels wrong like drinking or an event that makes you uncomfortable.  Just showing up every now and again is usually enough.  And if it isn’t, it’s probably the wrong company for you.  But that’s another blog.
